microchipping

With your adoption, you are going to get a microchip for your pet with services provided by 24PetWatch. If you own a pet that is not from our shelter, but that you would like microchipped, we offer microchipping services for $20 per microchip. A microchip allows any shelter or animal control officer to scan your pet and, if your pet has a microchip implant, to get information on the owner to safely and quickly return his pet. This is so effective that when we get microchipped pets returned to the shelter, we often call the owner before the owner has even noticed his pet is missing! Microchips are tiny and will not cause your pet any discomfort.

At our shelter, we will receive over 4,000 animals each year, and the only ones who are guaranteed to find their home are the ones who are microchipped, and whose microchip information is up to date. Cats, especially, need to be microchipped in case they find their way to our shelter, which is very over-populated with cats!

Check on our calendar for microchip discount events, which may happen several times each year.

Each year thousands of lost and abandoned animals are taken in by shelters and humane societies across North America. Some of these animals never make it home because they can’t be identified.

Microchipping offers pet owners the only truly permanent method of identifying your pet and linking the animal back to you, the owner, via 24PetWatch's Lost Pet Recovery Service [you may also contact the shelter directly]. Collar tags can break or become unreadable and tattooing can become illegible. So, if you want to improve your pet’s chances of getting home fast and safe in case it were to go missing, microchipping is your best option.

Cats are naturally curious and unpredictable. In the event that your cat strays away from the safety of your home a microchip registered with 24PetWatch Microchip is your cat’s best chance of a fast return.

Animal microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and are typically implanted by a vet just beneath the surface of the skin between the shoulder blades. The process is similar to receiving vaccination through a needle and is painless to pets. Most animals don’t even react when the microchip is implanted. Once implanted the microchip remains between the shoulder blades just beneath the skin for the rest of the animal’s lifetime, becoming a permanent form of identification.
