Facts About Spaying/Neutering:

Myths About Spaying/Neutering...

Myth: "It costs too much."
Truth: Our Animal Center offers a spay/neuter financial aid program to help offset the costs of spaying/neutering your pet. It can actually save you money because if your pet gets lost and is received by the animal shelter, it will cost you more to reclaim your pet if your pet has not been spayed/neutered.

Myth: "She needs to have at least one litter."
Truth: Having offspring DOES NOT improve a pet's life. In fact, studies have shown that females spayed before their first heat cycle are actually healthier.

Myth: "I have a male, so I really don't need to worry about puppies."
Truth: Aside from the fact that it takes two to tango and responsibility should be shared, neutering your male is very important for many other reasons. Neutered males are less likely to roam, get hit by a car, bite, get into fights or mark their territory. Neutering also prevents testicular cancer - the second most common cancer in dogs.

Myth: "I keep my animals indoors, so I don't have to worry about it."
Truth: Males who smell a female in heat will do everything they can to escape, and are often successful. Neutering your female will make her much calmer as she will not have a heat cycle. Neutering your male will make him safer, as he will be much less likely to try to escape.
