The cost to adopt a cat is $90. This is a $45 spay/neuter fee, $10 rabies vaccine, $20 microchip, and $15 for boosters, de-flea and a de-worming.
The cost for a dog is $150. This is an $85 spay/neuter fee, $10 rabies vaccine, $15 heartworm test, $20 for the first set of boosters, a de-flea, and a de-worming.
Dollar for dollar, our prices are cheaper than buying from a stranger's box of kittens. If an animal you want to adopt has already been spayed/neutered, the adoption fee will be discounted. A fixed cat is only $45 and a fixed dog is only $65.
Sometimes, animals will be discounted because of a Guardian Angel or other special pricing. Cats who are in danger of being euthanized may cost as little as $10. To view special pricing, please visit the adoption page or come down to visit our shelter during our regular visiting hours.
We are asked many times if you can adopt an animal without paying the spay/neuter fee or microchip fee, and not get your animal fixed or microchipped. The answer is no. We are required by law to fix and microchip every animal adopted from our facility, and we have no desire to contribute to the already rampant breeding crisis in Brown County, TX.
If you cannot afford the adoption fee, unfortunately we cannot place an animal on hold, nor can you put down a portion of the fee as a "deposit." If you cannot afford the adoption, you should consider carefully whether or not you are ready to commit to the huge financial responsibility that is owning a pet.
If an animal is too young to be fixed, you will still pay the full adoption price (which covers the cost of the spay/neuter surgery), but you will have to get the animal fixed at a later date, usually within thirty days. If you do not fix your animal by the due date, your animal will be seized by animal control, your fee will not be refunded, and you will not be allowed to adopt another animal from us.
