KIND - (Kids In Nature's Defense):

Kids in Nature's Defense is a program offered through the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education (NAHEE). The program began in September 2006 in all of the elementary schools in Brown County. We are currently serving over 200 classrooms!

Children from kindergarten through 6th grade will receive a KIND newspaper once a month that discusses different subjects like how to eat right for kids and their pets, self-esteem issues of children, how to be kind to people and animals, and much more!

In addition to the KIND News, we also have a supplemental curriculum that teachers can use in the classroom. A video library project is underway to allow teachers to borrow films to share with students.

It is very important to teach our children to be kind to each other and to animals at an early age. This learning is also essential if we are ever going to gain control of the pet population! We have received a grant from the Humane Society of the United states and NAHEE to help offset some of the expenses of this program, but we still need volunteers to work as liasons between the different schools. After all, we are serving a very large population!

Volunteers will help with keeping up with the videos and obtaining supplemental information for the teachers.
